Building a legacy
A question we are frequently asked is “Of all of the businesses you could choose to go into business together on, why would you choose a distillery?”
One word….Legacy!
In 2012 Jill’s dad died unexpectedly. He was a moonshiner and when she thinks about him, she can vividly remember the joy in his face when he was able to share his moonshine with others. Jill remembers his laugh when he would recount a story about how one of his friends or neighbors stopped by just to say hello and they got into the moonshine, and how the quick visit would turn into hours of laughing and storytelling.
When we think about our brand, we think about that…..the best memories, the most epic times that just happen when you come together with your favorite people in life. No plans turning into wild nights of nonstop laughing.
After many unsuccessful idea attempts, Annie threw out the idea of spirits making because of how much she admires Bethenny Frankel and her successful spirits company. That was it. We were sold.
Our first batch was called the Legacy batch. If you have a bottle of ours check on the back for a number…..we hand numbered them. We still have some that we haven’t distributed yet so keep looking! That’s special. That’s Legacy.

Three years since our first sale 🤍
Four years since we filed the LLC and said “let’s do this”
We missed the annual January post… but honestly that feels pretty on brand for how this whole thing has gone 😅
Nothing about building Best Friends Distillery has been polished or perfectly timed. It’s been real. It’s been messy. It’s been squeezing this dream into the margins of already full lives.
School drop offs. Practices. Games. Full time jobs. Late nights. Early mornings. Labeling bottles on random holidays. Loading cases in the cold. Trying to keep everything moving while life keeps moving too.
But the best part in all of it has been this
We’ve gotten more time together
More laughs
More chaos
More “how is this actually our life” moments
Getting to build something with your best friend while raising kids and juggling everything else is something we will never take for granted
And none of this happens without the people and businesses who have supported us along the way
To every bar, restaurant, and liquor store that took a chance on us early and continues to carry us
To the places pouring our vodka and making it part of their menus
To the people who order a Best Friends cocktail, bring a bottle to a party, share a post, or tell someone about us
Thank you. Seriously.
Supporting local is what built this. And we feel that every single day.
